Contrast is my favorite design principle. It can be simply defined as difference. A few examples of art elements in contrast are light/dark, big/small, sharp/blurry and rough/smooth. Generally speaking the greater the degree of contrast, the more dramatic the impact.
I took this snapshot while walking to work. The sight of a kid’s shoe abandoned on top of the gray rock caught my eye. Though the list below didn’t manifest itself in my brain, at some levels these observations were recorded.
- Kid’s sneaker on top of a rock
- Soft/Hard
- Shoe/Rock
- Green Leaves/Rock
- Playful Patterns/Undistinguished Surface
- Light/Dark
- Shoe/Rock
- Sunlit/Shaded
- Colorful/Drab
- Small/Large
- Soft/Hard
Use of contrast is a common theme within the descriptions for my portfolio.
