Near the end of a western-states road trip, I drove through Yellowstone National Park. Time limited my sight-seeing to a stop at Old Faithful. While waiting for the geyser to erupt, I wandered around its sulfur pools. I was fascinated by their otherworldy shapes (smells) and colors.
I framed the two pools to view diagonally, and centered their constricting connection. I kept the stark contrast and neutral colors that were created by the mid-day sun. They add a bit a severity to the photo that helps describe the scene.
Perhaps it’s the point of view, but this scene can appear to be an aerial photo of a rugged coastline.
